Stability and Storage Conditions of Dimethyl Phthalate

Author:

Dimethyl phthalate is photosensitive and should be kept away from light for extended periods.

Dimethyl phthalate is photosensitive and should be protected from prolonged exposure to light. This product should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area to prevent physical degradation; it must be kept separate from incompatible substances. Residual vapors and liquids may remain in empty containers, posing a potential hazard. When heated to temperatures above its flash point, this product is readily flammable and can form explosive air mixtures. Dimethyl phthalate undergoes thermal decomposition, yielding carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Under standard laboratory conditions, the product, as well as dimethyl sulfoxide, ethanol (95%), and aqueous solutions, remain stable for up to 24 hours.
