Detailed Introduction
Modified Citric Acid Ester (M-CAE) refers to a series of citric acid ester compounds that have been chemically modified.
- Appearance: Typically a clear, oily liquid with a faint ester-like odor, or virtually odorless; the color number is generally below 50 (i.e., almost as clear as water).
-Physical parameters: molecular weight approximately 400–550 g/mol; boiling point relatively high, ranging from 330°C to 400°C; melting point extremely low, allowing it to remain liquid even in very cold weather; density approximately 1.04–1.08 g/cm³ at 20°C; refractive index approximately 1.440–1.455 at 25°C; viscosity between 30 and 80 mPa·s at 25°C.
- Chemical properties: The molecular structure is relatively stable and does not readily undergo chemical reactions with other substances. It exhibits good mutual solubility with various cellulose resins, vinyl resins, synthetic rubbers, and more. Despite its chemical stability, these materials are ultimately biodegradable in the environment.
Uses
Modified citrate esters are primarily referred to as “green and environmentally friendly plasticizers” and are widely used in the following fields:
1. Food packaging materials (core application): as the primary plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC). Used in the production of cling film, food containers, and gaskets for beverage bottle caps.
2. Medical supplies: Used in the manufacture of medical infusion tubing, blood bags, medical gloves, and other such products.
3. Children’s toys: used in the production of soft PVC toys.
4. Cosmetics and daily chemicals: Used as a fixative or plasticizer in nail polish and perfumes. In nail polish, it helps prevent brittleness.
5. Other plastics: Used in cellulose-based plastics (such as cellulose acetate) to manufacture eyeglass frames, toothbrush handles, and other products, providing excellent toughness and luster.
Packaging: 25 L plastic drums, 200 L steel or plastic drums, IBC tote tanks, and flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs).
