- Chemical properties: It exhibits excellent thermal and photostability. It can absorb hydrogen chloride (HCl) released during the thermal degradation of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), thereby preventing further degradation of PVC and functioning as a heat stabilizer. The epoxy group is capable of undergoing ring-opening reactions with acids, alcohols, amines, and other functional groups. Under strongly acidic or strongly alkaline conditions, the epoxy bond may cleave. It demonstrates outstanding compatibility with PVC resins, acrylic resins, alkyd resins, and other polymers.
Uses
Epoxidized soybean oil is primarily used as a plasticizer and stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics, with the following specific applications:
1. Plasticizers for PVC products: Used in both flexible and rigid PVC applications, such as films, synthetic leather, insulation for wires and cables, floor coverings, hoses, shoe soles, and more. They enhance the flexibility, low-temperature resistance, and impact resistance of PVC.
2. Heat stabilizers and light stabilizers: This is an auxiliary heat stabilizer that can significantly enhance the heat resistance and weatherability of PVC products, thereby preventing discoloration (yellowing) during processing and service.
3. Food packaging materials: Due to their non-toxic and odorless properties (in compliance with FDA standards), they are commonly used in PVC products that require non-toxicity, such as food wrap films, food containers, and medical devices.
4. Coatings and Inks: Used as a modifier for alkyd resin coatings to enhance adhesion, weather resistance, and flexibility. Also employed in certain inks as a plasticizer and dispersant.
5. Other applications: used as a plasticizer in rubber processing; used as an additive in synthetic lubricating oils or greases.
Packaging: 200 L iron drums or plastic drums, IBC tote tanks, and flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs).
